Ernest Oliver Faulkner was born in East Retford, Notts in Q4-1914 [ 7B:15] the son of Arthur E and Mary A. FAULKNER (née HOWIE). later of Chippenham.

This is another case where the memorial has reversed the given names of the man.



The 6th Seaforths were fighting a rearguard action in the Ypres area of Belgium on the day the Belgians capitulated. They had suffered grievous losses during the blitzkrieg as the Germans raced across Belgium. Fighting close to the famous WW1 battleground of Hill 60, the 6th Seaforths were trying to hold "The Dump"
28 men of the battalion were killed on the 27th all bar four being buried in Bedford House Cemetery.
